Guide

Use your phone camera as a shot timer.

A shot timer listens for the bang. In dry fire there's no bang, just a quiet click. Peregrine times each shot by watching instead: your iPhone camera sees the laser hit the target and stamps it with a time.

Timing by sight

A laser training cartridge flashes a red dot on the target the moment the striker drops. The camera catches that flash, so each shot's time is the instant it hit the paper, and its place on the target comes with it. Room noise never counts as a shot, because the timer isn't listening.

Draw time and splits

Every drill starts on a GO beep. Your draw time runs from that beep to your first hit. A split is the time between one hit and the next, which shows how fast you get back on target and press again. Peregrine records both for every shot, next to the score, so you see whether the speed cost you points.

What a par time is

A par time is the time you give yourself to finish a string. The timer beeps to start and beeps again at par, and the goal is to have your hits down before the second beep. Shrink it as you get faster. A beep alone can teach you to rush your sights to beat the clock; scoring every hit makes you actually hit the zone under par. Free Shoot runs to a 90-second par by default, or Unlimited, and the standards drills carry pars you can tighten toward the official times.

The multi-par timer

Some days you don't need the target at all. Peregrine's par timer is a multi-par timer that never uses the camera: a random start delay so you can't time the beep, up to five pars in one string, and repeat or loop. Set one par for the draw and another for the follow-up, and run it anywhere. It's free. Camera scoring, all 25 drills and all six targets come with one $14.99 unlock. No subscription.

A range in any room

No range trip, no ammo, no lane to book. Clear a wall, tape up a printed target, set your iPhone on a stand at target height, and you've got a timed, scored lane at home. Set a magazine capacity and the app calls 'Reload' when you run dry while the clock keeps running, so your reload splits are real too.
