Short. Peregrine turns an iPhone into a dry-fire shot timer that can see. Print a target, load a laser training cartridge, and every shot is scored: where it landed, how fast, and why you missed.
Long. Dry fire is how serious shooters build most of their skill, and until now it has been practice without a scorecard. Peregrine changes that with nothing more than the phone already in your pocket. Print one of six target faces on ordinary letter paper, tape it to a wall, and scan it once. From then on the camera reads every flash from a laser training cartridge and places it on the target to the millimetre, with a draw time, a split for every follow-up shot, and a running score against the drill you chose.
The drill library holds 25 built-in drills, eight of them official standards such as the Bill Drill, the FAST and the IDPA 5x5 Classifier, plus spoken-callout drills that tell you where to shoot, when to hold fire and when to move. A par timer runs the standards the way a range officer would. The Drill Designer builds your own from the same parts. Drift Diagnosis reads the pattern of your misses and names the likely cause, such as trigger jerk or a heeled grip, so the next rep has something to fix. History keeps every session and can group runs by shooter, so a household or a class can take turns on one phone and compare.
Peregrine is a free download with a free tier that never expires. One purchase of $24.99 unlocks the rest, with no subscription and no consumables. It is built in Austin, Texas, and it keeps everything on the device.
A red laser training cartridge that matches your firearm's caliber (Pink Rhino, LaserLyte and similar all work; infrared and green do not), any printer with letter paper, and something to hold the phone still at about chest height. Scan the B-8 Bullseye, run Free Shoot to see hits land, then open Drills and run the Bill Drill with the par timer on. Five minutes in you will have draw times, splits and a Drift Diagnosis card, which is the whole product in one screen.
Peregrine is for dry fire only. The app opens on the four firearm safety rules every time and will not run until they are acknowledged. Treat every firearm as loaded, keep live ammunition out of the room, and follow the firearm maker's dry-fire guidance.
